Not too long after I graduated from college, I was able to get a job with an advertising firm. I got the job through an agency that helps with placements. Advertising was not the thing I went to school for, but I think that it proved to be very valuable for several reasons. First, it helped me make the money I needed at the time and helped me to pay off some of my student loans. Second, it taught me a lot about advertising, which has helped me as a business owner today.
There are very few businesses that can get away without doing any kind of advertising. These are usually businesses that have been established for a long time and sell some kind of product or service that is in high demand. Most the time though, businesses like this still have competition. Many businesses have failed because they have not done the right amount of advertising or they have not found the right people to advertise to. When I opened my business, I realized that I was going to have to work very hard in advertising. Not only is this a really tough market to do business in, but I was selling a product that lots of other businesses sell as well.
I started advertising locally at first. I immediately had business cards, flyers and brochures made. I handed these out to everyone I knew and left them in public places so that people could be aware that I started a new business. I also placed advertisements in the local newspaper and in free magazines that are available in my community. From there, I moved on to Internet marketing. I know that people use the Internet when they need to find services and buy products. I have used lots of things like search engine optimization, e-mail marketing and other means to help me.
